The Editorial Eras of Ensayos Revista de Economía

According to Wayne C. Booth, a central figure in the so-called Chicago School of Literature, when we write, we do so to share our work, but this process also constitutes an exercise that allows us to improve it in three areas: remembering accurately, understanding clearly, and thinking objectively (Booth et al., 2008).

The digital curation project seeks to preserve the memory and richness of the works published in Ensayos Revista de Economía (Essays Journal of Economics) throughout its more than 60-year history, and to share them with new generations eager to learn about the evolution of contemporary economic thought.

The wealth of published works and the editorial history of Ensayos Revista de Economía span from its first issue, published in October 1967, to the present day.

Three distinct editorial periods define the project, from its inception and development to its national expansion and current stage of consolidation and internationalization. This internationalization adheres to the standardized criteria of leading academic and scientific journals worldwide, while maintaining its commitment to open and free access, thus reinforcing its dedication to dissemination, continuity, and editorial rigor.

The identified publishing eras are classified into the following periods:

First Era(1964-1970): Beginning of the publishing project.

Second Era (1979-2006): Development and editorial structure of the publishing project.

Third Era (2007 to the present): Consolidation and internationalization of the publishing project. 

To commemorate the 60th anniversary of Ensayos Revista de Economía in 2024, the journal's editorial team, in coordination with the library and periodicals team of the Consuelo Meyer L'Epée Library, began a process of recovering the complete collection of past physical issues and manually digitizing them in PDF format to preserve the memory of the documents published in the journal prior to its current era.

The new "Digital Archive" section presents the complete collection of articles and issues published in each of the three editorial periods of Ensayos Revista de Economía.

Each section provides access to the manually digitized archives of the complete collection from previous editorial periods, based on the surviving physical issues. This effort aims to ensure that the historical richness of its contents serves as a guide for new generations in their exploration of the history of critical scientific thought applied to economics.
