Special Issues

Ensayos Revista de Economía may publish special issues when they contribute to strengthening the journal's scientific scope, to the discussion of relevant problems in the fields of Economics and Finance, or to the consolidation of research lines pertinent to its academic community.

The approval of special issues shall be subject to the criteria of scientific relevance, coherence with the journal's scope, academic quality of the proposal, editorial feasibility, and compliance with current ethical and editorial policies.

The coordination of special issues shall be the responsibility of guest editors, with the support of associate editors or members of the editorial team, as determined by the Editor-in-Chief. In all cases, manuscripts shall undergo the regular editorial evaluation and peer-review process established by the journal.

Special issues shall guarantee editorial independence, transparency in manuscript selection, the absence of conflicts of interest, and compliance with the same scientific, ethical, and formal standards as those applicable to regular issues.

 

1. Definition and Objective

Special issues are collections of scientific articles focused on a specific, emerging, or particularly relevant scientific topic, consistent with the journal's focus and scope.

Their objective is to publish original, unpublished research results on current issues of interest to the academic community in economics, finance, and related areas as defined by the journal.

 

2. Approval Criteria

The approval of a special issue shall be subject to evaluation by the Editor-in-Chief and, when applicable, the Editorial Board, considering the following criteria:

  • Thematic relevance and alignment with the journal's focus.
  • Scientific relevance and timeliness of the proposed topic.
  • Potential contribution to the journal's academic strengthening and visibility.
  • Participation of national and international specialists.
  • Editorial and scientific feasibility of the proposal.
  • Compliance with the journal's ethical and editorial policies.

The journal reserves the right to accept, reject, or request modifications to special issue proposals.

 

3. Guidelines for Guest Editors

Ensayos Revista de Economía may publish special issues with guest editors when the proposed topic contributes to the academic development of the journal's covered areas and strengthens its scientific projection.

Special issues shall follow the same editorial process applied to regular issues. Therefore, all received manuscripts shall undergo editorial evaluation, peer review, originality verification, ethical compliance, and final decision by the journal's editorial team.

 

4. Appointment of Guest Editors

Guest editors shall be academics or researchers with a recognized trajectory in the topic of the special issue. Their appointment shall be made based on the following criteria:

  • Academic trajectory and scientific output related to the special issue's topic.
  • Experience in research, academic evaluation, or editorial management.
  • Correspondence between their area of specialization and the journal's thematic scope.
  • Editorial independence and absence of conflicts of interest.
  • Institutional, geographic, and academic diversity.
  • Capacity to collaborate with the journal's editorial team throughout the entire process.

Submission of a special issue proposal does not imply its approval nor the automatic appointment of its proponents as guest editors.

 

5. Responsibilities of Guest Editors

Guest editors shall collaborate with the editorial team of Ensayos Revista de Economía in the academic coordination of the special issue. Their responsibilities shall be as follows:

  • Defining, together with the editorial team, the special issue's thematic focus.
  • Preparing the academic proposal for the special issue.
  • Collaborating in the drafting of the call for papers.
  • Proposing relevant thematic axes consistent with the journal's scope.
  • Recommending possible specialized reviewers.
  • Disseminating the call for papers within academic networks, institutions, and scientific communities related to the topic.
  • Providing academic follow-up to the development of the special issue.
  • Issuing editorial recommendations based on the received assessments.
  • Promptly informing the editorial team of any delays, ethical issues, conflicts of interest, or process difficulties.

 

6. Limits of Action

The participation of guest editors does not substitute for the journal's editorial responsibility. Guest editors may not:

  • Make final decisions of acceptance or rejection.
  • Substitute for the Editor-in-Chief or the journal's editorial team.
  • Modify the journal's editorial policies, author guidelines, or evaluation criteria.
  • Guarantee the publication of invited or submitted manuscripts for the special issue.
  • Intervene in manuscripts with which they have a conflict of interest.
  • Act as reviewers for manuscripts submitted to the special issue they coordinate.
  • Promote self-citations, coercive citations, or unjustified references to their own works, to the special issue, or to the journal.

 

7. Editorial Process of Manuscripts

All manuscripts submitted to a special issue shall comply with the same requirements applicable to regular issues of Ensayos Revista de Economía. This includes:

  • Compliance with the author guidelines.
  • Originality and unpublished nature of the manuscript.
  • Correspondence with the journal's thematic scope.
  • Initial editorial evaluation.
  • Peer review.
  • Declaration of conflicts of interest.
  • Compliance with ethical principles.
  • Textual similarity review.
  • Attention to corrections requested by the journal.
  • Final approval by the editorial team.

An invitation to participate in a special issue does not guarantee acceptance or publication of the manuscript.

 

8. Conflicts of Interest

Guest editors shall declare any conflict of interest before beginning their participation in the special issue and throughout the entire editorial process. Conflicts of interest include, among others:

  • Personal, family, or institutional relationship with authors or reviewers.
  • Recent academic collaboration with authors or reviewers.
  • Hierarchical, professional, or financial relationship.
  • Joint participation in projects, research groups, or academic networks that compromise impartiality.
  • Direct or indirect benefit derived from the acceptance of a manuscript.

When a conflict of interest exists, the guest editor shall be excluded from the editorial management of the corresponding manuscript. In these cases, manuscript follow-up shall be the responsibility of the Editor-in-Chief, another member of the editorial team, or a guest editor who has no conflict of interest.

 

9. Manuscripts by Guest Editors

Guest editors shall not manage, supervise, or recommend decisions on manuscripts of their authorship or co-authorship. When a guest editor submits a manuscript to the special issue:

  • The manuscript shall undergo the same editorial process as any other contribution.
  • Editorial management shall be the responsibility of the Editor-in-Chief or a member of the editorial team, free of conflict of interest.
  • The guest editor shall not participate in the selection of reviewers.
  • The guest editor shall not have access to assessments or internal communications of the process.
  • The final decision shall be made exclusively by the journal's editorial team.

 

10. Call for Papers for the Special Issue

The call for papers for the special issue shall be approved prior to its dissemination. It shall include:

  • Title of the special issue.
  • Academic justification.
  • Objectives.
  • Thematic axes.
  • Profile of expected manuscripts.
  • Submission requirements.
  • Relevant dates.
  • Evaluation process.
  • Author guidelines.
  • Information on peer review.
  • Conditions of open access and publication.
  • Editorial contact information.

The call for papers shall be disseminated openly to encourage participation from national and international authors, avoid endogamy, and broaden the academic diversity of the special issue.

 

11. Quality, Diversity, and Editorial Integrity

Special issues shall maintain the standards of academic quality, editorial ethics, and transparency required by Ensayos Revista de Economía. Their management shall ensure the following principles:

  • Academic relevance of the topic.
  • Coherence with the journal's scope.
  • Institutional, geographic, and academic diversity of authors.
  • Independent selection of reviewers.
  • Impartial evaluation of manuscripts.
  • Prevention of editorial endogamy.
  • Control of conflicts of interest.
  • Transparency in the call for papers and in the editorial process.
  • Compliance with the journal's editorial timelines.

 

12. Final Editorial Decision

The final decision on acceptance, rejection, requests for modifications, or publication of manuscripts shall be made exclusively by the editorial team of Ensayos Revista de Economía, under the direction of the Editor-in-Chief.

Recommendations from guest editors shall be considered academic inputs to the editorial process, but shall not be binding. The journal retains the authority to:

  • Adjust the schedule of the special issue.
  • Request modifications to the call for papers.
  • Reorganize accepted manuscripts into regular issues.
  • Suspend the publication of the special issue when the established editorial, ethical, or academic criteria are not met.
  • Reject manuscripts that do not meet the journal's quality standards, even if they are part of a thematic call for papers.
